How CGPA is Calculated in SRM IST

CGPA Formula

CGPA = Sum(Semester GPA x Semester Credits) / Sum(All Credits)

Unlike a simple average, CGPA at SRM IST is a credit-weighted average. Semesters with more total credits will pull your overall CGPA up or down more significantly.

Worked Example - CSE Student, 4 Semesters

Semester 1 (24 credits) - GPA 8.5: 24 × 8.5 = 204.0

Semester 2 (24 credits) - GPA 8.2: 24 × 8.2 = 196.8

Semester 3 (23 credits) - GPA 9.0: 23 × 9.0 = 207.0

Semester 4 (23 credits) - GPA 8.7: 23 × 8.7 = 200.1

CGPA = (204.0 + 196.8 + 207.0 + 200.1) / (24 + 24 + 23 + 23) = 807.9 / 94 = 8.59
