When applying for off-campus jobs, government exams, or higher studies abroad, you are often required to fill in your academic marks as a Percentage (%) rather than a CGPA. But how do you convert your 10-point SRM CGPA into a 100-point percentage?
The SRM Official Multiplier: x 9.5
While some Indian universities loosely multiply CGPA by 10, SRM IST traditionally utilizes the standard UGC/AICTE accepted formula of multiplying the CGPA by 9.5.
Which Formula to Use?
For placements and MS applications: GPA x 10
Example: CGPA 8.0 = 80%. Standard across all SRM campuses.
Official SRM document formula: GPA x 9.5
Appears in specific internal SRM forms only.
Our calculator uses the standard x10 formula used by placement cells and most companies.
Real-World Examples
- If your CGPA is 9.0, your percentage is 9.0 × 9.5 = 85.5%
- If your CGPA is 8.5, your percentage is 8.5 × 9.5 = 80.75%
- If your CGPA is 7.2, your percentage is 7.2 × 9.5 = 68.4%
Why not multiply by 10?
Multiplying by 10 mathematically implies that an 'O' grade (10 points) is exactly equal to 100% marks. However, in SRM, an 'O' grade is awarded to anyone scoring between 91 and 100. The 9.5 multiplier mathematically accounts for this grading bracket variance, making it the statistically fairer standard across Indian engineering colleges.
